Learn About SEO From The Basics To Advanced

December 27, 2018 By Vivan Collins

There are many digital marketing techniques, but few are as versatile and effective as is SEO. If you are unfamiliar with the term, it is an acronym that at and for search engine optimization. This is a fancy way of saying it makes you sight appear sooner in search results. Consider the last thing that you looked up on the internet. After typing in your search terms and clicking on “search”, you then had a list of possible results presented to you. From there, you have likely looked at the first few options of the list and chosen one of those to click on. This is what most people do, but consider how many results rest below those first few options. In can be only a few, or it can be hundreds or even thousands. What SEO strives to do is make sure that your website is one of the first few options you see after performing a search. What you will find here is information about SEO, how it works, how to get started, etc. think of this as your guide to all things SEO.
To learn SEO, the first thing to understand is how exactly SEO works and to understand this, you have to first understand a bit about how search engines work. Every search engine works off of something called algorithms which are programs that sort things into categories based on predetermined parameters. The inner workings of an algorithm are much more complicated than this, but hopefully, you now have a basic understanding. Now, each search engine sets different parameters for its algorithms, but there are a few things that remain the same with each one. These things are quality, reliability, and keywords. Quality is important because search engines do not want to show users websites with poor grammar, under-researched material, a lack of punctuation, or material that is not relevant. Reliability is really just another way of saying that the site can be trusted. it is not necessarily about whether or not the site is prone to crash, which is an important aspect, it is more about knowing that users can trust the information that the site provides. Keywords are always important when it comes to digital marketing. That is how to let search engines know what your site is about and what type of content you provide. Each of these aspects is equally important, it is not enough to have or even two, you must have them all working in conjunction with each other at all times.
Search engines use digital robots, for lack of a better term, to scour the recesses of the internet to look at every website, every social media page, every file, and every destination to determine where each thing should be placed in search results. The robots or “crawlers” gather the information and then bring it back to the search engine where it will then be analyzed with the search engine algorithms. This analysis will determine where each thing will be placed in search results.

Now that you understand a bit about how search engines work, it is time to understand how to utilize each of the key factors.

The first place to start is with your content, this is where you will place your keywords and build quality. Every piece of content that you place on your website needs to be of high quality. This means no spelling errors, not punctuation mistakes, and no grammar issues. To achieve this, you will need to proofread every article thoroughly before posting it. Proofread it at least three times before submitting it, that way there is far less chance of mistakes getting through. Also, you will need to place the appropriate keywords in every article.  If you do not feel comfortable writing the content yourself, consider hiring a professional to write it for you. There are many fantastic companies and freelancers that would be more than happy to take on your project.

When it comes to building trust, you will need to utilize social media platforms, email outreach, and other methods of reaching people. You need to gain a following that shows your company can be trusted and is provided quality products or services. To do this, you need to reach as many people as you can. The best place to start is by creating an e-newsletter that goes out to followers once per week or even every other week. Create a signup box on your website that will allow your followers to opt into your newsletter. Next, you need to establish a strong social media presence. This includes have a profile on all of the major platforms and keeping each one active. You must engage with your followers and keep them interested. The next step to building trust is to get other websites and blog to place a link to your site on their site. This is called a link back and is of great value to an SEO campaign.
If you still need more information to learn about SEO, there are several excellent courses available online that will take you through the process step by step. All you have to do is search online and choose the best one for you. There will be some free courses and some paid ones. Each one will have its own benefits. You will have to make the decision based on budget, availability, and scheduling. Some colleges also offer courses in digital marketing if you prefer an in-person class. To find out what is available, all you have to do is use specific keywords in a search. If you are looking for something local, you will need to add location-specific words such as city names, college names, possibly even street names. If you are looking on a slightly broader scale, consider using words like “local” or “near me”.  If you are looking for an online course, be sure to add in “online”, “telecommute”, or “remote” to your search. Once you find a class that you are interested in, all you have to do is sign up.
