The world is a beautiful place. It is filled with amazing forests, stunning and clean rivers, and healthy air. With that said, it’s environment is a place that can become damaged. Some of the choices humans are making are damaging the environment and causing harm to the animals and people that live in it. Did you know that there is something we as humans can do about it? Keep reading as we give you simple tips to help preserve the beautiful land around you for future generations.
Go Solar
One great way you can save the planet is by going solar. Some solar reviews online state that not only does having solar panels help protect the planet, but can help to save you money. If you live in a hot climate your electric bills may be through the roof. Having solar panels can cause your monthly bill to be minimal. The extra solar energy that is not used can then be used in the winter months. It’s that easy. Although there is a larger upfront cost, if you plan on being in the home for many years, this will end up saving you money overall.
Using solar panels can also be useful if you are going camping or need a backup. Simply have the panel out in the sun on sunny days and it can be used as a battery in the future.
Turn off the water
You probably turn on the water and leave it running for longer than it needs to be regularly. For example, when you are brushing your teeth are you turning the water off in between the first time you wet your toothbrush and the final time you clean it. If you are not, this is a quick change that you can do to help the environment. So much water and energy are wasted by not turning the water off. Another example is if you are doing dishes. Turn off the water in between each dish. Anytime you are not directly washing something and need the water is a waste if the water is on. Lastly, if your showers are long this is a huge waste of water. Cut down on the length of your shower. Showers waste so much water in each household each year. If you know you want to be soaking in the shower for a long period of time, try simply drawing a bath.
Refill water bottle
If you are in an area that you can drink the tap water, it’s a great idea to do that. Don´t buy multiple plastic water bottles every single day even if you are recycling them. The best thing you can be doing is to purchase a water bottle and refill it in the sink each time you need it. Many companies provide water bottles that are made of materials like metal so you do not have any plastic that you end up drinking. Not only is this more environmentally safe, but it is healthier too.
Repair yourself
If your shoes or clothes get a tear in them, many people throw them out and head to the mall. Next time, try doing a simple repair yourself. Some tailors work wonders and can save you money on having to purchase new items which will also help to save the environment.
Bike to work
If your work is in a biking or walking distance, stop driving there and exercise on the way instead. Not only are you getting a workout in which will help you keep your heart healthier and waistline smaller, but it will help the amount of pollution your car is emitting into the environment. Your wallet will even thank you for it since you no longer need to pay for gas daily. If it seems overwhelming at first, start by choosing one day per week to bike to work. You may find you actually end up loving it.
Unplug when not using
If you have a cup of coffee at home each morning, make sure you are unplugging the coffee maker after each use. Your appliances are still using electricity even when they are not being used if they stay plugged in. Of course, your refrigerator makes an exception, however, small electronics don´t need to stay plugged in. This also means items like your cell phone charger, microwave, and television should be unplugged too. These little changes will not only help the environment but your power bill at the end of each month.
Buy local
Farms and businesses that make items in bulk emit more greenhouse gas. This is because it needs a huge truck to bring it in. Try making the small change of buying local. Not only will the quality of your food be better, but you will be supporting a small business that needs your support. Go local and buy local. It will really help the planet.
Thermostat
Adjusting the thermostat just a couple degrees can really help. In the winter, although you may want to have it on, try and not have it quite as warm in the house. In the summer, it’s okay if you have it on when you live somewhere hot, but try not to have the air conditioning on quite as strong. Once again, your wallet will also thank you.
Pay bills online
Gone are the days of driving to a store to pay your bill. Or perhaps sending in a check through the mail to pay your electric or cable bill. Some businesses still do not have the option, however, most do. Make sure all your bills are paid online. They prevent unneeded papers that you will simply throw right in the trash anyways. You can always ask your bank to stop sending you your monthly statements too. You can always easily go online and see.
